Mathews County Democratic Committee

Here is some of what we do:

• Campaign: we campaign for Democratic candidates by placing yard signs throughout the county and communicating with voters via postcards, phone calls, and in-person canvassing.  We hold meet/greet events as well as GOTV (get out the vote) activities at election time.

• Financial support: we raise funds to support Democratic candidates.

• Candidate forums: we sponsor public forums to provide an opportunity for voters to learn more about candidates.

• Outreach: we table at public events and outside polls on Election Days.

• Voter Registration: we register voters at public events.

• Election Monitors: we provide volunteer observers of the local election process.

• Regional Collaboration: we work closely with Democratic committees in neighboring counties to increase the effectiveness of all.

• Community Support: we provide financial support and food donations for Hands Across Mathews.

• Academic Scholarship: we give a $1,000 academic scholarship to a graduating high school senior each year.

• Education: we support the Newspapers in Education program that provides free copies of the Gloucester-Mathews Gazette-Journal to local public schools.

• Annual Celebration: we hold a summer Crab Steam to raise funds and to celebrate the work of Mathews County Democrats.

• Get-togethers: we gather together to watch debates and election returns, and to celebrate holidays and milestones.
